For Crop Year 2008

REFERENCE GUIDE:  (Click here for Information on dates, definitions of types, and qualifying criteria)

Coverage for forage grown using an organic farming practice needs to be selected by the sales closing date.

It has automatic winter coverage.  An appraisal is needed before destroying forage acres in the spring.  Fields can be grazed after the plants have gone into winter dormancy, but all livestock must be removed prior to plant emergence in the spring.

Non-irrigated alfalfa, alfalfa grass, and grass alfalfa types are insurable in all counties listed on my web site in addition to irrigated types.

NAP is not available for these insurable types and practices.

Forage Production must have hard records submitted with the production report for all insured's.  These records must be contemporaneous with the harvesting, storing, or feeding of the insured crop for each crop year reported.

Coverage levels of 50 to 75% in 5% increments of your average yield are available.   $81/ton for alfalfa and alfalfa/grass mix and $77/ton for the Grass/Alfalfa mix type are available for price elections for Montana forage.  In North Dakota the price elections are $60 for alfalfa and alfalfa/grass and $48 for the Grass/Alfalfa mix.

Insured forage consists of planted perennial alfalfa, perennial red clover, perennial grasses, or a mixture thereof, provided the following insurability requirements are met: (It can't be grown with a non-forage crop, has an adequate stand at the beginning of the insurance period, and meets age limitations).

Insurance begins on acreage with an adequate stand on May 22 following the year of seeding for spring seeded acreage and October 16th following the year of seeding for fall seeded acreage.  In subsequent years, insurance attaches on October 16th.

Insurance ends after the earliest of: (1) Total destruction of the forage crop; (2) Final adjustment of a loss; (3) Abandonment of the forage crop; (4) Removal from the windrow or field for each cutting; (5) The date grazing commences on the forage crop; or (6) October 15th of the crop year.
